I have always enjoyed being creative. In music, cooking, visual arts, writing…etc. I get bored when things remain the same for too long. I remember as a kid I would rearrange my bedroom every so often for a change. In school my favorite classes were of course art and choir/theater.
Through the years, I have allowed the busyness and stresses of life to rob me of the joy I get from being creative. While I never stopped singing, it has only been recently that I have started back into art.
In class at Santa Cruz School of the Supernatural, I was reminded of the very creative nature of God. All you need to do is step outside to experience the creativity in nature. All the colors, smells, sounds…. we try our best to duplicate the beauty we see in nature, but it’s never as good as the original. Our senses come alive in the presence of God!
I am realizing now why I feel so alive when I create something… I am made in the image of God, and He is the ultimate and original Creator. So therefore it is in my nature to be creative as well. ( and it doesn’t have to be in just art or music, but in any way) When I create, I am putting a part of myself into something. I am seeing how the Holy Spirit inspires me, and works with me to create. While the finished creation is what may inspire others, I am seeing how much the Lord loves the process of creating something with me. It’s something for us to experience together. I think this picture represents that idea:
This last weekend I had the privilege of making (with my mom) a cake for my brother and sister in law’s first baby shower. While it was certainly tiring, I loved the experience of getting to create something with someone I love so much. We shared ideas, and we each did our part. We laughed and enjoyed the experience together. In the end, we could step back with admiration at the finished product and say with pride,” We did that!”
I can imagine how the Creator felt that way after the greatest of all His creation: man. With such pride and admiration He said, ” It is very good!” And what’s amazing is, He still looks at you with that same pride and admiration and says, ” You are awesome!”
The creation is awesome because it reflects the awesomeness of the creator!
Now….go create something!
